Dressage, Combined Training
& Show Jumping |
Redlands, 18th June |
It was shirt sleeve order under a blazing sun for
the second in the series of Dressage, Combined Training and Show Jumping shows.
Honours were equal for a mother and daughter,
Katherine and Mandy Stell.

Ten year old Katherine Stell won the first show
jumping class of the day riding Fantastic Misty Fox to a second clear round in the jump
off, a full six seconds ahead of second placed Lauren McArthy and Rosie.
Later in the day mother, Mandy Stell, won the
Intermediate class riding the veteran mare Fraggle Rock with the fastest time and four
faults over a tricky 2ft 9in course that saw no clear rounds.
Riders in the 3ft Open class fared better, with
four going clear in the first round. The jump off resulted in a win for Katie Sellick and
Braveheart who had the only double clear round.
Jo Lambourne, who was third in the Open on Soleil
Rouge, was delighted to take first place in the Novice Combined Training. Ruth Lord, who a
year ago won the Walk and Trot class had progressed to take first place in the Preliminary
Combined Training this time.
Top Score, a novelty jumping class in which riders
try to clock up as many points as possible in ninety seconds over a choice of jumps at
different heights and values, was won convincingly by Claire Gaylor, the only rider to
attempt the Joker. Set at 3ft 6in, it is the most valuable fence but if
knocked down the points are deducted.
Lesley McNally rode Rags To Riches to first place
in the Walk and Trot dressage before daughter, Louise, took over to gain sixth place
riding Prelim 10.
A back to form Double Decker won both the
Preliminary dressage tests for Jane Lockwood whilst the Novice and Elementary tests were
once again dominated by Maureen McDonnell and Pedantic, another veteran horse whose
performance belies his years.
