End of Season Show |
16th September 2007 |
With well over a hundred horses and
riders it was a bustling day at Redlands and all credit goes to organiser, Debbie Selden,
for having everything running so smoothly.
Disappointment turned to smiles for
Vicki Lawrence at the End Of Season Show.
Vicki had qualified for dressage and
jumping classes at British Riding Clubs National Championship earlier this month but
had been unable to go to Lincoln because her horse, Louis, was lame. At Redlands she rode
Dibley, her sisters horse, to win the Howlett Challenge Bowl for best Riding Club
Horse, a trophy first awarded in 1949.
A Championship for the working hunters, cobs and hunter ponies
was awarded for the first time this year, the winner being Lara Reddy with her young
horse, Golly Gosh, from the Working Hunter class. Reserve was Working Hunter Pony winner,
Alfies Biscuit, ridden by Susannah Jeffery.
Jane
Lockwood rounded off a very good season in club competitions winning the Riding Horse
class with Double Decker. The big chestnut gelding has not been the easiest of rides and a
lot of hard work and persistence has been rewarded by this years results. Redwood Earl Grey won Ridden Hunter for Sam Cotter.
Classes introduced this year were
Best Coloured, won by Philippa Sodens attractive skewbald, Rocky, and the Racehorse
Sanctuary Ex-Racehorse Trophy won by Sharon Richardson and Zeptepi.
Strong fields contested the senior
show jumping. The 2ft 6in Novice class was won by Alice Biggs-Davison on Olimpic.
Rose MacLachlan, riding Cassie, won
the 2ft 9in Intermediate jumping but her two clear rounds in the 3ft Open only took her to
second place. No one in the Open jump off was able to match the time of first to go, Jo
Thomas and Kruja Roslyn.

Eight year-old Harriet Gillam, who
won Best Lead Rein Rider in 2004 and 2005, and Best Rider, Under 12, in 2006, showed what
an accomplished equestrienne she is by again winning Best Rider, Under 12, and both the
Very Novice Show Jumping and Versatile Pony with Asher.
Handy Pony and Horse & Hound had
more entries than ever. Once again Holly was ready and eager to be the Hound for any child
lacking one at the show and was in the winning combination with Laura Branch and Willow.
Some exciting gymkhana games rounded off the days entertainment for the younger
riders, who all went home with rosettes.
Thanks to all the judges, stewards
and helpers who set up the rings and contributed so much to a great day.
