One Day Event

Bells Yew Green - 20th August

The club once again held its Horse Trials at Higham Farm, Bells Yew Green, as there is not enough space at Redlands to run the three phases, dressage, show jumping and cross-country, simultaneously.

The one day event has gone from strength to strength and this year it was necessary to divide both the Novice and Intermediate classes into two sections.  The cross-country had the strongest influence on the overall scores in every class but was most marked in the Novice sections.

The results proved that riding is a sport in which competitors from a wide age range can compete on equal terms.

The youngest was eleven year old Jacqui Hederson who gained third place in the 3ft Open class. Her pony, Bouncing Tigger, lived up to its name over the fences but was also able to produce the second best dressage test in the Open.

Winner of the Open was Sara Roberts with Harry, a horse she bought for £5 with a pony thrown in! Sara had connections with other winners that day. Her mother, Pat Temple won the first Intermediate section on Florentine and Jan Ames won the first Novice section on Marley’s Cassanova, a horse that she has bought from Sara a couple of months earlier.

Pat Temple confessed to being surprised by her win, as her dressage test was ridden during a burst of hail, hadn’t been among the best. However clear rounds over show jumps and cross-country fences with only a few time penalties brought her up the order.
