Horse Trials Championships |
Offchurch Bury, 5th-6th August
2006 |
Jo
Thomas riding her mare, Kruja Roslyn (aka.Rosie), produced the best performance by a
Sevenoaks Riding Club member at the Horse Trials Championships at Offchurch, Warwickshire,
to take an individual fifth place.

Sevenoaks ended twelfth out of
twenty-one Intermediate teams from all parts of the United Kingdom.
Jo, Eleanor Comer (Climate), Sarah
Harley (Hugo) and Sara Roberts (Mr Harry) were seventh after the dressage and show jumping
phases on the first day of the Intermediate Two Day Event.

The second day of this long
format event began with approximately 3½ Km of roads and tracks to be covered
in just over 17 minutes, followed by a two minute gallop around a steeplechase course of
six fences.
The horses then had a further half
hour of roads and tracks before they were checked by the vets in the ten minute
box.
None of the Sevenoaks horses received
penalties in these phases and all were judged fit to continue to the last phase, the
cross-country course.
The Intermediate course had been set
at 3ft 3in, the height for British Eventing Pre-Novice. The course was both imposing and
technical, with plenty of difficult angles and narrow profiles to the fences.
The difficulty was compounded by a
very tight optimum time and two river crossings. Pre-Novice is run at 450m per minute but
the Riding Clubs Intermediate set a speed of 490m per minute, which few riders were
able to meet.
Thomas, trailblazer for Sevenoaks,
had a clear jumping round with 10 time penalties to add to her dressage score, which put
her in fifth place as an individual.
In trying to chase the time both
Eleanor and Sarah Harley had jumping as well as time faults but Sara Roberts fast
but very inexperienced thoroughbred made it inside the time, despite two run-outs.
