Zeptepi Show Jumping League

2009

The Zeptepi Show Jumping League culminated in a nail biting final round for Jo Thomas as she waited to see whether her mare, Kruja Roslyn, would hold on to the lead in the Supreme Championship.

Rosie had been out of action at the start of the season but had come back to form with wins at 2ft.9in. and 3ft. at shows in June and July. A freak injury whilst travelling to Championships in Lincoln, however, meant that Rosie was not able to compete in the final show.

The league is run by Sevenoaks Riding Club over seven shows between May and September. Horse and rider combinations gain points show jumping at 2ft.3in., 2ft.6in., 2ft.9in. and 3ft.

At the end of the season the leading combination at each height is awarded a championship rosette in the pink and blue colours of Sharon Richardson and her ex-racehorse eventer, Zeptepi. The combination with the most points overall wins the Supreme Champion’s sash and trophy.

Tyan Tullamore ridden by Claire Somerset had a final win at 2ft.3in. to put them comfortably ahead of Schroeder ridden by Emma Tapp and Julia van den Berg’s Whiskey Mac.

The 2ft.6in. Championship went to Pop’s Poppy ridden by Tara Norris, with Schroeder, this time ridden by Cathy Tapp and Bridget Bentall’s Rasco in close contention.

Another win at 2ft.9in put Golden Island Star, ridden by Alice Somerset ahead of Padstow Bay ridden by Sara Roberts and Rosie in that section.

At 3ft. Kruja Roslyn remained in the lead with Naomi ridden by Gill Cufley and Janet Paterson’s Finnadoon as the runners up.

However it was Golden Island Star’s first win in the league at 3ft. that brought him within one point of snatching the title from this year’s Supreme Champion, Kruja Roslyn.
