Dressage, Combined Training
& Show Jumping at Redlands |
30th July |
Three of the horses taking top places at Sevenoaks
Riding Clubs final dressage competition of the season have one thing in common; they
are all trained by local instructor, Sandra Trewhitt.
Nicola Leroy was so delighted with her win on
Durkje in Preliminary Test 16, with a score of 69%, that she phoned the news to Sandra
straight away. Durkje went on to take third place in Preliminary Test 17 with 67.1%,
another excellent score.
Fifteen year old Nicola Bunch proved that Sandra
Trewhitt was correct three years previously in advising that Radscha would be a good first
horse for her. She won the Preliminary Combined Training and came second in Preliminary
Test 17 with 68.3%
.
The final member of Trewhitts trio was Glynn
Antrim, ridden by Eleanor Comer, who has owned him for ten years. He was such a tense,
nervous horse in the early days that he would struggle to get 50%. His winning score of
71.3% in Preliminary Test 17 was a real endorsement of his training over the years.
Gill Wise, who resisted the lure of dressage at
Hickstead to be with us, was pleased by performances in the more advanced tests.
Juli Southby and Piglet took first place in Novice
Test 23 and Maureen McDonnell, was the winner of the Elementary class for the third show
running although this time it was Sturtwood, not Pedantic, taking the top slot.
Laura Reeves , who also won the Open Show Jumping
class, took first place in the Novice Combined Training, with a clear round show jumping
and 70% in the Novice Horse Trials test.
The lack of rain over the last two month greatly
reduced the show jumping entries. Nevertheless, there was plenty of excitement in the Top
Score class, with Alice Burgess giving Regal Rex plenty vocal praise as three times he
cleared the 3ft 6in Joker fence for the winning score. Jo Thomas and Dubonnet II were
close on their heels, in second place.

Sarah La Thrope, from the shows sponsor,
estate agents Ibbett Moseley, was on hand to present rosettes and the members
challenge trophies.
Sara Roberts and Jo Comer thank all the judges,
writers and stewards for their invaluable assistance.
