The 2005 Christmas Show at Olympia held a
special magic for friends and supporters of Sevenoaks Riding Club’s “Hogworts
Quadrille.”
In the guise of
Professors McGonagall, Sprout, Snape and Flintwick; Debbie Seldon, Maureen
McDonnell, Martine Weber and Sarah Crookenden conjured up Hogworts School of Witchcraft
and Wizardry with wands that sent showers of glitter into the air.
Like the audience, these professors were in
holiday mood. Their horses shimmered and sparkled, colourfully caparisoned to represent
the school’s four houses; Newgale Caffrey’s Gold in red and gold for Griffindor,
Sturtwood in black and gold for Hufflepuff, Rising Promise in green and silver for
Slytherin and Ballyard Edward’s Pride in blue and silver for Ravenclaw.
Some 600 metres of gold and silver ribbon and
braid went into the costumes, as well as four hand knitted scarves in house colours to
keep out the winter weather. The team was placed third overall but was rewarded with well
deserved top marks for their splendid appearance.
Chef d’Equipe, Lucy Cunliffe, said it had
been a thrilling experience for the riders and support team alike.
