Sixteen clubs contested the Area
Horse Trials run at Borde Hill. On a day of continuous rain, conditions were, one
competitor suggested, “like Glastonbury but without the music!”
Even so Sevenoaks took two of the
five places for teams to go to the BRC Horse Trials Championship at Offchurch,
Warwickshire, in August.
Alice Burgess (Ballygowan Ludo), Emma
Howard (Paddy), Vicki Lawrence (Louis) and Khia Cadney-Moon (La Gioa) qualified for one of
two much coveted junior team places.
Jo Donaldson (Ryan) qualified
individually in the Senior Novice class, having won her section.
Two strong Sevenoaks teams vied with
each other for top place in the Senior Intermediate class.
Clare Bull (Market Design), Eleanor
Comer (Climate), Laura Reeves (Hedera Hat) and Jo Thomas (Kruja Roslyn) won, just eleven
points ahead of Jenny Mills (Irish Romance), Sonia Theobald (Minnie Mee), Sara Roberts
(Harry) and Sue French (Rising Promise). Sue qualified individually as the highest placed
rider not in the winning team.
Briony Bunch (Highjinx Jack) gained
an individual qualification in that class, as did Maureen McDonnell (Evidence) in the
Elementary Dressage to Music section.
