Area 10 Indoor Show Jumping, Inter-club Friendly

28th January

The Club got the year off to a good start with a win at the Area 10 inter-club Indoor Show Jumping held at Golden Cross, East Sussex. The competition was for Senior and Junior teams of three which consisted of a novice rider, a novice horse and an open horse and rider combination.

The Sevenoaks team of Ann Mills (Grey Fly), Sara Roberts (Bonny) and Jo Thomas (Rosie) won the Senior competition as the only one of twenty-two teams to jump two rounds with a clean slate.

Winning Seniors - Ann Mills, Sara Roberts & Jo Thomas

Riding Campanile, Sara was also part of the Sevenoaks team that came sixth, with Jan Ames (Sparky) and Clare Gaylor (Aries).

Several Sevenoaks members are also Bradbourne RC members and compete for that club – and we don’t hold it against them! Annie Etherington (Jazmine) was in the Bradbourne Riding Club team with Carole Cook (Finnigan) and Marisa Turner (Danny’s Limmerick) which came second, just 4 faults behind the leaders.

Bradbourne’s second team, Carole Cook (Budding Annie), with Sevenoaks members Lynn Bright (Murphy) and Janet Phillips (Silvern Conetta), came fourth.

Sevenoaks Juniors - Daisy Price, Alice Burgess, Emma Howard & Khia Cadney-Moon

The morning’s Junior competition was a more controversial affair due to some unusual course building.

Sevenoaks thought that their first rider had had a clear round only to hear that Alice Burgess and Rex had been eliminated for failing to go through the finish. Even though she had passed the only “Finish” marker in a round that wasn’t against the clock, she had failed to break the beam of the timer which was angled away from the final fence and the exit from the ring.

Alice was only the third rider in the class, the first having been eliminated for failing to jump the last fence altogether. Once the word went round that to cross the beam horses had to make a sharp right hand turn after the last fence no one else made that mistake but it did lead to the unattractive sight of some riders who made a big jump over the last fence having to drag their horses round to avoid jumping an additional fence.

Alice (Cracker) & Daisy (Minnie)

Alice had the consolation of riding a double clear on Cracker, along with Emma Howard (Paddy) and Khia Cadney-Moon (Phoebe) to give that team second place. Of the eliminated team, Khia (La Gioa) came second in her section and Daisy Price (Minnie) was first in hers, leaving them wondering what might have been had Rex been able to go into the jump off.
